License, removal, privacy
We write each guide in our own words and leave the YouTube video on the page. We don't host the file, re-upload it, or sell it. If you made the video, you can take the written guide down any time.
License
Each Tearsheet page holds two works.
The written Tearsheet (title, summary, tools, warnings, and steps) is original instructional text from HowDoIFix. You can follow it, print it, and share it for personal repair. If you republish the text, credit HowDoIFix and link back to the Tearsheet. We do not license the video, the thumbnail, or the channel name.
The source video remains the creator's. HowDoIFix plays it through YouTube's official embed and links to the watch page. We do not grant you the right to download, copy, or redistribute that footage. YouTube's terms govern the player.
Repair facts (a fastener size, a ribbon fold, a battery type) are not copyrightable. The creator's footage, script, voice, and editing are. We write a new procedure in our own words and keep the original on the page. That is not a replacement copy of the video.
This is not a Creative Commons license of anyone else's work, and it is not permission to scrape YouTube. Fair use, where it applies, is a defense evaluated case by case. We do not stamp it on every Tearsheet. If you own a video we used, use request removal. We honor it.
Request removal of my video
Paste the YouTube link and the channel name as it appears on the Tearsheet. If they match, the written Tearsheet comes down right away and cannot be submitted again. We don't ask for an email, and we don't keep a story about why you asked.
This is how HowDoIFix takes a Tearsheet down. It is not a substitute for a formal DMCA notice to YouTube or a host, and it does not transfer any rights in the video.
Privacy
HowDoIFix has no accounts and no mailing list.
- Submitted links. A YouTube URL you paste becomes a public Tearsheet: title, channel, thumbnail URL, and the written procedure. Don't submit a video you want kept private.
- Ratings. Stars live as an aggregate on the Tearsheet. Your last vote stays in this browser so you can change it.
- Removal requests. We record the video id, the channel name you typed, and whether the Tearsheet was pulled. No email, no name, no message body.
- Source fetch. To write a Tearsheet we request the public title, channel, description, and captions from YouTube. We don't keep a full transcript on the page.
- Usage. Microsoft Clarity is on so we can see how the site is used (clicks, scrolls, and anonymized session replay). It sets cookies. Microsoft's privacy statement covers what they store.
- What we don't do. We don't sell personal data or run ads. Embeds are YouTube's; their cookies follow YouTube's policy, not ours.
If a Tearsheet is already down, the link 404s. That means it is gone from HowDoIFix.
