KitchenAid Pro 600 Gearbox and Worm Gear Service
Pedestal-off gearbox service for a Pro 600 that grinds, stalls, or leaks grease into the bowl. Covers the worm gear, planetary, and the drip-ring path that usually caused the mess.
Before you start
- Unplug it. The motor will run with the housing open.
- Do not substitute chassis grease. Use the food-grade mixer grease the gearbox was packed with.
- The planetary can drop. Support it when the last pedestal bolt comes out.

Unplug, bowl off, drip ring off
Speed to 0, unplug, bowl counterclockwise, accessory off the shaft. The drip ring lifts and twists. If grease is already in the bowl, the ring seal has failed — replace it, do not just wipe.

Stand the mixer and pull the pedestal
On a towel, remove the pedestal screws and lift the column. Map long vs short screws as they come out. The gearbox is now the silver housing under the motor.

Open the gearbox
Split the housing. Photograph the worm, planetary, and any broken teeth before you disturb them. Pack out the old grease with a rag — do not wash the case with water.

Replace the worm and pack grease
Slide the new worm onto the motor shaft, mesh it with the planetary, and pack grease into the teeth until the voids are full but not overflowing the gasket.

Reassemble and run with no bowl
Housing, pedestal, drip ring, accessory. Plug in and run through speeds with no bowl for thirty seconds. Then a bowl of dough. If it still grinds, a tooth is left in the case.
