Left Joy-Con Analog Stick Replacement
Tri-wing teardown of the left Joy-Con to swap the analog stick module. Fastener map, battery disconnect, and the ZL ribbon you must not crease. Right Joy-Con is a different layout — do not follow this for (R).
Before you start
- The left and right Joy-Con are not mirror images. This guide is left only.
- Disconnect the battery before the stick screws come out.
- ZL ribbon tears if the rail is lifted too far. Fold it back the way it sat.

Pull the four Y00 screws on the back
Lay the Joy-Con face down on a padded mat. Remove the four 6.2 mm tri-point Y00 screws. They look identical — still keep them together and away from the smaller Phillips hardware inside.

Split the shell
Work a pick along the seam starting at the rail. The analog cap will try to catch; ease the front shell up without stretching the ZL ribbon that still joins the two halves. Do not yank the rail off.
Stop if the ribbon goes taut. Open like a book from the stick side.

Unplug the battery
The battery connector is a small friction plug on the board. Spudger under the wires’ connector body, not the leads. Set the cell aside so a slipped driver cannot short it.

Swap the stick module
Remove the Phillips screws around the stick. Lift the module straight up. Drop the new module onto the same posts, confirm the cap sits in the shell hole without binding, and drive the screws evenly. Do not crush the surrounding foam.

Reconnect and close
Battery plug first, then fold the ZL ribbon into its original nest. Click the shell closed and test stick, ZL, and capture before the four Y00 screws go back. Recalibrate the stick in Switch settings if the cursor sits off-center.
