Instant Pot Lid Parts, Seal, and Reassembly
Lid teardown for a pot that will not come to pressure or will not open. Sealing ring, anti-block shield, float valve, and steam-release parts — no cooker-body work.
Before you start
- Never force a lid that is still pressurized. The float valve must be down.
- A warped or food-swollen ring will not seal. Replace it; do not stretch it back.
- Keep a spare ring for savory vs sweet. Odors transfer.

Confirm it is cold and unlocked
Float valve down, steam release on Venting, lid unlocked. If the valve is up, it is still pressurized — wait. Do not pry.

Pull the sealing ring
From the inside of the lid, grab the ring and walk it out of the rack. Wash it separately. Inspect for cracks, flattening, or a permanent oval — that ring is done.

Anti-block shield and float valve
The little metal shield over the steam port twists or unscrews depending on revision. Under it is the path that clogs with rice. Pop the float valve silicone cap off the top, drop the metal pin out, wash both.

Steam-release handle
Pull the handle straight up. The tiny gasket under it is what actually vents. If it is split, the pot rattles and never holds pressure.

Reseat and pressure-test with water
Ring fully in the rack all the way around, notches on the ridge. Shield, float pin, cap, handle. Run a 2-minute water test. If steam pours from the rim, the ring is not seated.
