Controller Analog Stick Drift Fix

Five non-invasive checks for analog stick drift: scrape the stick rim, tap debris loose, vacuum and blow out the gap, then update controller firmware if available.

1. 01

   Scrape the stick rim with cardboard

   Cut a small triangle from thin product cardboard. Use a corner to scrape around the rim of the drifting analog stick. Push the stick through its full range as you work so the edge cleans the full circle.

   Use light pressure so you do not gouge the plastic or tear cardboard into the gap.

   Tap debris loose upside down

   Turn the controller upside down. Slap the shell on the side opposite the problem stick to shake grit out of the mechanism.

   Vacuum around the stick

   Use a vacuum with a narrow nozzle on the gap around the analog stick. Reach in with your fingers and rotate the stick in different directions while vacuuming so debris can leave the well.

   Blow out the stick gap

   Blow into the gap around the stick with a straw, a rolled paper tube, canned air, or your mouth. Work the stick through its range while you blow so air reaches under the cap.

   Short bursts only with canned air. Do not spit moisture into the opening.

   Update controller firmware

   If the controller supports firmware updates, run the update from the console system menu or the vendor’s PC tool. Confirm the stick behavior after the update finishes.
