Dyson V8 Cyclone and Bin Disassembly
Bin, shroud, and cyclone stack service for a V8 that has lost suction or will not pop the bin. No motor teardown — this is the part you actually clog.
Before you start
- Do not wash the post-motor HEPA if your serial is the non-washable type. The pre-motor filter is the washable one.
- Let every plastic part dry 24 hours before a high-speed run or you will pack wet dust into the cyclones.
- The bin seal must seat in its groove or you will get a whistle and no suction.

Dump the bin the intended way
Hold the handle, pull the red lever, and let the bin drop. If it will not, do not pry the plastic — go to the next step and separate the cyclone instead of breaking the latch.

Separate cyclone from wand
Release the wand/bin catch and lift the cyclone stack up and off. Set the motor stick aside. You should now have the clear bin and the grey/red cyclone as one piece.

Twist the bin off the cyclone
The clear bin twists off the cyclone. Line up the arrows, turn, and pull. Stubborn bins are usually packed hair on the shroud, not a welded thread — work it with the bin empty.

Clear the shroud holes
Hair wraps the perforated shroud and starves the cyclones. Pick it off, then brush. Wash the bin and the cyclone in warm water only if dust is caked inside the cones. Shine a light through — you want every cone open.
No dishwasher, no detergent in the cyclones.

Reseat seals and click home
Dry fully. Twist the bin back until it clicks. Confirm the lip seal is in its groove all the way around. Reattach to the wand and run at max for ten seconds — suction should come back immediately if the clog was the shroud.
